Former Los Angeles Lakers center Dwight Howard must feel as if his No. 12 should have been retired with the Orlando Magic as he is upset that the team has issued it out this season.
Tobias Harris requested the number and was granted it, becoming the first person to don it since Howard’s departure. Howard spent eight seasons in Orlando.
But Harris has a special reason for wearing No. 12, as a tribute to a close friend of his who died of leukemia as a teenager.
He came over to the Magic from the Milwaukee Bucks a season ago, and averaged 17.3 ppg, 8.5 rpg and 2.1 apg in 27 games with Orlando.
Howard likely is unaware of why Harris elected to wear the number.
