News: Angels Sign Relief Pitcher Joe Smith

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have reportedly reached an agreement to sign reliever Joe Smith to a three-year deal reportedly worth $15 million as passed along by CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman on Twitter.

112313 Smith 300x208 News: Angels Sign Relief Pitcher Joe Smith Smith, 29, had been with the Cleveland Indians since 2009, going 18-11 with a 2.76 ERA, recording three saves and a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 2.02 while with the Indians.

This past season he was 6-2 with a 2.29 ERA and a 2.35 K:BB ratio. He averaged 7.7 hits allowed/9, 0.7 HR/9, 3.3 BB/9 and 7.7 K/9.

The Angels have already tabbed Ernesto Frieri as their closer for 2014, which likely places Smith into the setup role.

He made $3.15 million last season.
