downloadFormer UCLA head coach and NFL assistant Karl Dorrell is set to become the new offensive coordinator at Vanderbilt pending approval by the university.

The 50-year-old coach was the quarterbacks coach for the Houston Texans before the firing of Gary Kubiak in December.

He will serve under the Commodores’ new head coach, Derek Mason, who played at Northern Arizona while Dorrell was an assistant coach from 1990-91.

Dorrell played for UCLA as a wide receiver from 1983-86 and was 35-27 as the head coach from 2003-07, including a 10-2 season that saw a Sun Bowl victory in 2005.
